Should You employ a Pseudonym?

While people within the Internet Marketing sector love Internet Marketing for the possibilities it provides, it is also painfully obvious that people who do not work in this sector tend to view it through a highly critical eye. There are plenty of rumors and misconceptions in existence about IM and even the whole internet. The people who work within it know and understand how fantastic it is but it still posess a unique challenge: do you want to be judged for it in your “regular” life?

Many people who work in the industry of Internet Marketing do so under a pseudonym. They think up fake names for themselves because they wish to ensure that their IM lifestyle stays separate from everything else, particularly when they only do IM part time. Many newer and also part time Web marketers are worried about becoming identified by their employers and family or friends. Obviously, even though you don’t care about this sort of thing it is still important: should you choose a pseudonym for the work you do online?

There are a wide range of positive aspects to using a pseudonym. The primary benefit, by a long shot, is having the possiblity to create an identity for yourself that is completely separate from your personal life and makes it easier to make sure they stay totally separate. If you work in a field not online in which a professional profile is critical and people view the internet as something less than worthy, using a pseudonym helps to protect you from prying eyes on both sides of the field.

Another reason that lots of IMers decide on a pseudonym is that it helps them if they want to develop several products in several different fields. This way it will be possible to construct expert level reputations for yourself in a selection of fields without having to worry that people think you are only a dabbler. You do not have to fear of being asked about conflicting products or niches because you’ll be working in them under different names.

Sadly, however, among the bigger reasons that folks do IM business under a pseudonym is that they are trying to evade the responsibilities that come with running a business, like paying taxes. If none of the business is conducted under their legitimate name, then they believe that they shouldnt have to worry about the money they make being reported to the IRS. It is very important you don’t fall for this defective logic. Even if you do business under some other name the cash will still be seen as income and you’ll be held responsible for it. Further, the IRS will find youpeople whom try to cheat the system always get found out.

Whether or not you choose to work with a pseudonym for the business you are doing is absolutely your choice. For a number of people it is merely easier to have one identify for their offline life and another for their online life. Others, on the other hand, believe that using just one name makes your life less complicated because there are fewer things to remember.
